Procedure & Results for Resazurin with Stressed Oysters

Procedure-

  1. Prepared a 0.1 M solution of resazurin by making 9.890 mL of DI water, 0.100 mL of pure resazurin, and 0.010 mL of DMSO.
  2. 3 out of 4 columns of a sample tray were then filled with 2 mL of this solution, and one column would contain stressed oysters, one would contain non-stressed oysters, and the last column would be a control.
  3.  Then, small oysters were then added to their respective columns, and then a spectrophotometer was used to track the absorbance over time.
  4. In the spectrophotometer, measurements were taken every 15 minutes for 2 hours, and the lid was removed during measurements.

SO- Stressed Oyster, CO- Control Oyster

Error occurred in the reading at 0.25 hours, so there is no data for this time.

Analysis-

There was no noticeable change in the color of the wells, and the intensity remained relatively constant across all of the wells. This is could be due to the use of DI water in the solution instead of salt water.
